March 24, 2012
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Rachel Hebberd led the way with five goals and a pair of assists as Pfeiffer University picked up a 19-8 victory over Converse College in Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon. The win pushes the Lady Falcons to 6-5 overall, 3-0 in league play while the Valkyries drop to 4-5, 1-2.
Pfeiffer quickly took control tallying the first seven-straight starting with Liz Melesh's first just 26 seconds in. Shannon Bonnel, Kristi Korn and Melesh would hit before Haley Gourdie sandwiched one in between Hebberd's first two of the day.
The Lady Falcons would add four more to end the half with an 11-4 lead before Hebberd picked up in the second half 29 seconds in starting a string of three-straight with Britton Muir and Melesh. Hebberd, Gourdie and Sarah Daly each scored after a quick strike from Converse while Melesh and Hebberd fittingly closed things out each adding one more over the final five minutes.
Katherine Athens and Laura Shea would contribute with a game-high six groundballs and three caused turnovers while Hebberd corralled a half-dozen draw controls.
Rachel McCarthy made three saves in net earning the win with her first half effort. Jamie Alcala made the same amount of stops in her second half of action.
Pfeiffer will get back to action next Saturday hosting Florida Southern at 11:00 a.m. It will be senior day for the Lady Falcons as they engage in their final home weekend game of the season. Molly Punk, Natalie Marvin and Melesh will be honored before the game.
