Baseball Falls into Deep Hole Early Dropping 9-3 Decision at #13 Tusculum
March 27, 2012
GREENEVILLE, T.N. - Falling behind early, Pfeiffer University couldn't find a way to dig themselves out of the early hole dropping a 9-3 decision to host and #13 Tusculum on Tuesday night at Pioneer Park. The win gives the Pioneers their eight-straight victory now at 28-5 on the year while the Falcons drop to 17-14.
After a three-up, three-down top of the first, the Pioneers jumped on the visitors for three with Cade Stallings and Cody Coffman RBI-singles finishing with a Carlos Santana sacrifice fly. Adding one in the second on an Alexi Colon double, Tusculum would make it a 5-0 lead on an Eric Conley single in the fifth.
Colon and Coffman would get the best of the Falcon pitching staff in the sixth pushing the advantage to seven while adding their final pair of runs in the seventh.
Pfeiffer's three runs would come in one bunch during the ninth Kevin Price, started with an infield single that scored Jacob Yates. Price would later score on a passed ball while Cole McGraw drove in the final run with his single to left.
Tusculum's Dylan Hochevar picked up the win tossing eight innings, allowing no runs on just three hits while whiffing nine. Coffman concluded 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI while Colon wrapped the night up 3-for-4 with three runs driven in and pair of runs scored. Yates and McGraw each collected two of Pfeiffer's eight hits on the night.
The Falcons get back to action at Carson-Newman on Wednesday afternoon taking on the Eagles at 2:00 p.m.
