Men's Lacrosse Suffers Overtime Loss at #5 Limestone as Saints Take 8-7 Win, Top Seed in Next Week's Tournament
April 14, 2012
GAFFNEY, S.C. - A 4-1 halftime lead was erased for good with Jackson Decker's overtime goal as #5 Limestone College avoided the upset bid by Pfeiffer University with an 8-7 win on Saturday afternoon. The Conference Carolinas victory scared the Saints to 12-1 overall, 5-0 in league play while the Falcons fall to 10-5, 4-1.
After Randy Waugh's goal 1:14 into the first quarter, Pfeiffer would reel off the next four over the next 28:46 for their three-goal lead at the break. Cole Sheen started and finished the first half streak while Robert Hope and Kory Lutes sandwiched goals in-between.
Starting the second half, Luke Gillespie made it 5-1 Pfeiffer just 66 seconds into the third before Limestone roared back for four-straight goals. Connor DeVoe would tally back-to-back strikes for a five-all game through three.
Both teams traded goals back-and-forth in the fourth as Tucker Hammock and Justin Rose put the Falcons up one on two different occasions. A man-up goal by Tyler Baker with 3:56 would be the final equalizer for Limestone before Decker's OT winner.
Pfeiffer will once again settle for the #2 seed in next week's conference tournament at Queens while Limestone holds the top spot.
