SALISBURY, N.C. - Juliana Conte found the back of the net 1:39 into the second overtime period to lift host Catawba College to a 3-2 victory over Pfeiffer University in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night. Taylor Arrowood started the game-winning play via corner kick to lift the Indians to 7-4 overall while the Lady Falcons drop to 5-5.
Just to get into overtime, Pfeiffer needed a second half goal after Catawba took a 2-1 lead into intermission. Inside the 67th minute of play, Mandi Roan provided that game-tying goal blasting a shot from 30 yards out.
Earlier in the evening, Conte started scoring on the night in the seventh minute of play sliding a shot underneath Pfeiffer keeper Britt Polly for a 1-0 lead. Stephanie Hardig would deposit a loose ball in the 21st minute after a quick assist from Kayla Rodriguez. Catawba would regain their lead in the 43rd minute just before the half from a 20-yard shot.
The region rivals each fired eight shots on the night and five on goal. Catawba held a 4-2 advantage in corners, including the game-winner set piece, while both sides combined for 33 fouls on the night. Angelica Pawlowski stopped three shots in net for Catawba while Polly turned away two for Pfeiffer.
The Lady Falcons will now look to a Conference Carolinas Saturday matinee at Lees-McRae. Both the Lady Falcons and Bobcats are currently standing at 4-1 inside league play. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
