Pfeiffer quickly jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the opening set after a pair of early kills by Kelly Lancellot (Naples, FL). Back-to-back aces from the Bulldogs’ Amanda Grandy (Rolesville, NC) and two-straight kills from Kati Wood (Pasadena, MD) had the visitors to within four at 14-10 midway through the set. After an ace by Milana Mervosh (Roebuck, SC) and handful of errors by the Bulldogs, Anna Vizvary (North Augusta, SC) would finish off the opening set with one of her eight kills on the night for a 1-0 match lead.
Set two went back-and-forth to the end featuring 16 tie scores and nine lead changes. Tied at 20-20, Barton took advantage of a Pfeiffer ball handling error followed by two kills from Wood and Jillian Sherman (Fort Lauderdale, FL). After a following ace from Grandy, Wood would close out the set 25-21 to bring Barton even in the best-of-five match.
Set three needed extra points to decide the outcome as Pfeiffer staved off four set points by Barton who led late 24-20. Four Bulldog miscues allowed the Lady Falcons to pull even at 24 in front of Emily Wall (High Point, NC) and Amber Wooten (East Bend, NC) kills completed the comeback in a 28-26 set three win.
Melissa Cochran (Knightdale, NC) helped the Bulldogs bolt out to an 8-5 lead in the fourth set before Pfeiffer again stormed back after two more kills from Lancellot. Another Wooten kill and Wall ace put the Lady Falcons up 14-11 before a Jordan Lee (Wilson, NC) service ace kept Barton close down just 17-16. Two more kills from Mervosh would provide the final bit of breathing room needed for the hosts before senior Jordan O'Bryant (Reidsville, NC) ended the match with her final two kills of the contest.
