Swimming Assistant Coach Katie Huff Receives Graduate Studies Incentive Grant

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presidents of Conference Carolinas institutions have launched an initiative for the 2012-2013 academic year in the form of a diversity specific Graduate Studies Incentive Grant.  The grant program is structured to encourage continued graduate preparation of minority individuals currently working within member athletics departments.  The inaugural grant was divided among three recipients: Katie Huff of Pfeiffer University, Lindsay Jackson of Limestone College, and LaToya Lindsey of Mount Olive College. The recipients are employees of the respective institutions, and are amidst pursuing their graduate degrees.

Presidents’ see this as the next step in an ongoing initiative to insure student-athlete opportunities to experience diverse leadership during the collegiate athletics experience.

Hired in August 2011, Katie Huff serves as the Assistant Swimming Coach at Pfeiffer University, where she is studying for her master's in Business Administration. In addition to her duties at Pfeiffer, Huff also serves as the Assistant Director at Richfield Child Development Center, and assists Head Coach Anderson with the Highland Creek Hurricanes swim team. A 2011 graduate of Catawba College, Huff obtained her B.S. in Business Administration and completed a successful Division II swimming career as a two-time MVP and captain. She plans to use the grant money for tuition, books and supplies.

Lindsay Jackson was named Limestone College’s first Head Field Hockey Coach in November 2008, has served as the Senior Woman Administrator since mid-2010, and is the liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Prior to Limestone, she was the assistant women’s lacrosse coach for two seasons at St. Andrews Presbyterian University. A 2006 graduate of Mercyhurst College, Jackson is currently enrolled in the University of Ohio’s online graduate program, where she is studying for her master’s in Coaching Education.

“I am very excited to receive this grant, and appreciate the conference’s effort to support further education and betterment of coaches and administrators within the conference,” commented Jackson.  As a grant recipient, she will use the funds for tuition costs.

LaToya Greene Lindsey was named Assistant Director of Athletics and Compliance Coordinator at Mount Olive College in the summer of 2006. She also serves as Senior Woman Administrator, Student-Athlete Affairs Coordinator, SAAC Advisor and freshman seminar instructor. Before arriving at Mount Olive, Lindsey spent 2 1/2 years as Assistant to the Commissioner for Compliance and Student Development at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Lindsey graduated from Winston-Salem State University, earning a degree in sports management with a concentration in business administration. She completed her master’s of science degree in general administration from Central Michigan University. Lindsey plans to apply the grant money towards books and tuition costs.
