Slow Start in First Half Costs Men's Basketball in 67-51 Loss at #22 King

BRISTOL, T.N. - Host and 22nd-ranked King College held Pfeiffer University to just 12 first half points en route to claiming a 67-51 victory in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action on Saturday night. The win pushes the Tornado to 11-2 overall, 6-1 in league play while the Falcons drop to 3-9, 1-5.

Logan Lyle made a pair of early threes before a couple of Tayron Gibson free throws got the Falcons on the board. From there, King opened up the contest bolting out on a 21-4 run as a three-point play by Drew Standifer put the hosts up 27-6. Matt Ellwood would connect on Pfeiffer's first made shot from the field hitting a three at the 8:58 mark of the first half. AJ Clark, Kenny Tappin and Josh Humphrey would have the other made baskets in a slow first half for the Falcons.

Gibson would score six-straight points early in the second half trying to rally the Falcons. Gibson would help slice the King lead down to 59-42 with two more free throws at the 6:56 mark of the second. Humphrey and Clark would help keep the deficit under 20 throughout the remainder of the contest, but the Falcons would eventually run out of time trying to dig themselves out of the first half hole. Pfeiffer would outscore King 39-24 over the final 20 minutes.

Jason Seymore led the Tornado with 16 points as one of three scorers in double-figures while Humphrey and Gibson paced the Falcons with 18 and 15 respectively.

Pfeiffer will now return home to the Merner Gym on Wednesday to host Mount Olive while entertaining North Greenville on Saturday. Tip off against the Trojans on Wednesday is 7:30 p.m. with live stats/video being available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
