Wild Finish to Regulation Sets Up Overtime; Women's Basketball Dominates Extra Session in 86-71 OT Dismissing of North Greenville

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Host Pfeiffer University needed overtime on Saturday afternoon and proceeded to pour on 20 points on North Greenville cruising to an 86-71 victory in Conference Carolinas women’s basketball action inside the Merner Gym. Brittany Cox (Winston-Salem, NC) dropped a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds crossing the 1,300-point mark in her career. The Lady Falcons improve to 11-2 overall, 6-2 in league play while the Crusaders, who scored just five points in overtime, plummet to 2-10, 0-8.

A wild finish to regulation set up overtime as both teams found themselves in a 64-64 game with 1:46 remaining after a Kellie Rhoney (Catawba, NC) layup. Cox would give the Lady Falcons a 66-64 lead with 23 seconds left as the chaos arrived. After a missed three-pointer by NGU’s Tyler Powers (Lenoir City, TN) with seven seconds left setup a team rebound and baseline throw in for Pfeiffer, the Crusaders Ciara Anderson (Chicago, IL) would steal the in-bounds pass and throw a quick shot up off the glass and in to square the contest at 66 as the buzzer sounded.

In overtime, a quick North Greenville basket from Timisty Nelson (Rock Hill, SC) put the visitors up two, Pfeiffer would take over after a layup and three from Cox. Christina Harvey (Locust Grove, VA) followed with four-straight points while Jodie Lemons (Madison, NC) followed with a three. To complete the five-minute extra session, Pfeiffer would go on to hit their final eight free throws, four by Rhoney, two from Cox and two by Lemons, to cruise to the 15-point, 86-71 win.

Behind Cox’s double-double, Harvey and Lemons would each finish a board shy of their own double-double with 21 and 14 points each. Rhoney concluded with 14 points and seven assists while Carter Williams (Harrisonburg, VA) registered a game-high nine assists.

Pfeiffer shot 43% from the field on Saturday holding North Greenville to a miserable 1-of-7 (14%) in the overtime period. The Crusaders shot 39% overall from the field. The Lady Falcons connected on 10 triples while dominating the boards 50-38.

Pfeiffer will hit the hardwood again on Monday night traveling to Barton for a 5:30 p.m. matchup with the first-place Bulldogs. Live stats and video will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
