Men's Basketball Struggles Continue in 73-62 Loss to Barton

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Barton College closed out the first half on a 16-3 run and put together a 14-5 stretch midway through the second to register a 73-62 victory over host Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas men's basketball action on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs improve to 16-5 overall, 11-4 in league play while sending the Falcons to 3-20, 1-15.

Down by as much as 10 early in the first, Pfeiffer would claw their way back into the contest as a 9-0 run saw the scoreboard match up 20-20 with 6:57 left in the period. AJ Clark started the run with a three-ball and later got the lead down to two on a layup. Joe Ledbetter's layup 57 seconds later would knot the contest at 20 apiece before Barton started the 16-3 run.

A three-point play by Gerald Boston started the run while four quick points from Brian McNair and another triple from Boston extended the lead back to 10. Boston, along with Chris Flemmings and Rodrick Chandler, would close out the half with the final six points as the Bulldogs took a 36-23 lead into the break.

Again in the second half, the Falcons saw an early deficit of 10 before getting back to within three on a pair of Tayron Gibson free throws with 10:44 left in the second. Another Boston three would again spark a 14-5 run that helped give the Bulldogs their final bit of seperation. Boston got the lead back out to 15 with 4:04 left on another three-point play. Pfeiffer would get as close as seven on a Jerod Wallace layup with 1:20 left, but Barton free throws would help seal the deal over the final 80 seconds.

Boston led all scorers on the night with 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting including perfect nights from behind the arc (4-for-4) and at the charity stripe (6-for-6). The Bulldogs shot 51% in the win and held a 38-28 advantage in rebounding. Pfeiffer was led by Gibson's 20 while Wallace followed with 16 off the bench on 8-of-9 shooting.
