Shepherd's Four Goals Lead Men's Lacrosse to 12-10 Victory at Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. - Pfeiffer University got four goals from James Shepherd and held off a fourth quarter rally by host Lenoir-Rhyne to take a 12-10 victory in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The win keeps the Falcons unbeaten at 2-0 on the young year while sending the Bears to 0-2.
Each team traded first quarter goals, Stephen Patti for Lenoir-Rhyne and Steven Tilmon for the Falcons, before Pfeiffer scored five second period goal for a 6-4 halftime lead. Tilmon and Shepherd made it a 3-1 lead for the Falcons before Lenoir-Rhyne reeled off three-straight to take a 4-3 lead. Shepherd would respond with back-to-back goals late in the period while Derek Thomas added a final goal with 10 seconds left for the two-goal halftime advantage.
Pfeiffer opened up the second half with four-straight goals grabbing a 10-4 lead as Thomas added two more goals along with Tilmon and Kory Lutes. In the fourth, the Bears would score four man-up goals, including the final three, taking advantage of nine penalty minutes committed by the Falcons. Shepherd's final goal would provide insurance registering his final goal with 9:52 to play in the fourth.
Robert Hope would pick up thre assists to help the Falcons on Saturday while Mike Triolo scooped up 11 groundballs. Hayden Kirk would make eight saves in net for the Falcons improving to 2-0 on the year.
