Baseball Uses 12-Hit Afternoon and Holds Off St. Andrews for 7-6 Victory over Knights

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University picked up a 3-for-4 afternoon at the plate from Cole McGraw (Claremont, NC) and needed all three of his RBI to register a 7-6 victory over St. Andrews in baseball action on Thursday afternoon. The win sends the Falcons to 3-12 overall while dropping the Knights to 9-2.

Both teams would start their back-and-forth scoring with the Knights’ first run in the second on a Tyler Jordan (Statesville, NC) RBI-single to left. Pfeiffer jumped on the board in the home half of the third scoring two on a McGraw two-out single to right. Pfeiffer tack on another run in the fourth on a Daniel Furr (Fayetteville, NC) sacrifice-fly before St. Andrews cut it to one on a leadoff homer by Ryan Harrold (North Wilkesboro, NC) in the sixth.

Pfeiffer would get two back a half-inning later on an Izzy Perez (Miami, FL) two-run blast to center before the Knights plated two in the seventh on three-straight doubles with RBI going to Jordan and Michael Luing (Panama City, FL). The Falcons final two runs came around in their seventh as Jon Gray (Granite Falls, NC) and McGraw singled in key insurance runs before the Knights finish with a run in the eighth and ninth for the final 7-6 margin.

Behind McGraw’s three-hit day, Gray, Perez and Kyle Hackney (Pittsboro, NC) would each record a pair of hits as Pfeiffer belted out 12 in the win. Jordan would lead the Knights offensively with two hits and two RBI. Josh Branch picked up the win for the Falcons with six innings of work allowing four runs on seven hits with a half-dozen strikeouts. Jeff Barkley would grab the save with a ninth inning of work allowing the one run on one hit. Dylan Norris (Boone, NC) helped keep the Falcons ahead with two innings of work in the seventh and eighth allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts.

Pfeiffer will get back into Conference Carolinas play on Friday and Saturday traveling to Erskine for a three-game weekend set. Friday’s opener will begin at 2:30 p.m.
