Tuttle's Complete Game Gem Backed Up by Bats in 11-4 Series-Opening Win at Erskine
March 1, 2013
DUE WEST, S.C. - Visiting Pfeiffer University got a complete game out of senior starter Bryan Tuttle and used a six-run third inning to score an 11-4 victory over host Erskine in Conference Carolinas baseball action on Friday afternoon. The victory sends the Falcons to 4-12 overall, 1-1 in league play while the Fleet fall to 10-5, 1-2.
Pfeiffer had to dig themselves out of a 3-0 hole as Erskine tallied three in the bottom of the first, without recording a single hit, but took advantage of three Falcon errors. Matt Wade would get the visitors on the board in the second with a solo home run before the game-opening six-run third.
Dalton Lindley started with a single before a two-out walk by Jon Gray kept the inning alive. Cole McGraw brought home Lindley with a RBI-single before Aaron Sharpe plated Gray with his own run-scoring single. Izzy Perez and Kyle Hackey would each contribute two-run singles to cap off the six-run, five-hit third frame. Wade would pick up a RBI-single for insurance in the seventh before McGraw blasted a three-run shot in the eighth leading to the 11-4 victory.
Tuttle recorded the win tossing all nine frame allowing four runs, only one earned, on eight hits with five strikeouts. Offensively, the Falcons saw their two through eight guys in the lineup record two-hit days led by McGraw's four RBI.
Both teams get back to action on Saturday playing a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. to wrap up the league weekend series. Live stats will be available through http://www.gofalconsports.com.
