Scoring 14 First Half Goals, Women's Lacrosse Cruises to 19-4 Victory over Saint Leo

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University found the back of the net 14 times in the first half cruising to a 19-4 victory over visiting Saint Leo in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Falcons stay unbeaten in 2013 moving to 4-0 on the year while the Lions remain winless dropping to 0-3.
Sarah Daly (New Market, MD) put the Lady Falcons on the board first 3:01 into the half on an assist from Britton Muir (Woodsboro, NC). Saint Leo would respond with back-to-back goals from Stephanie Marran (Patchogue, NY) and Cassie Miller (Rosemount, MN) to take a 2-1 lead with 23:20 remaining in the half. Pfeiffer would then reel off 13 of the next 14 goals to take a 14-3 lead into the break.
Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) would start and finish a 5-0 goal run with a pair of tallies while Carly Garrison (Orlando, FL), Ashleigh Kassab (Walkersville, MD) and Whitney Jaffe (Cohasset, MA) would register the other three. After Paige Leggio (Bay Shore, NY) scored to stop the Lady Falcons run, the next eight belonged to the home team as Daly would add two more, including one in a man-advantage situation, to help give Pfeiffer as 14-3 halftime lead.
In a fairly quiet second half, Lorin Lord (Summerville, SC) would score back-to-back with Kassab pushing the lead to 16-3 before the Lions’ Alix Murray (Orlando, FL) found the back of the net for the final Saint Leo goal at the 11:50 mark of the second. Bonnel and Daly would each add their final goals of the remaining 7:44 while Kristi Korn (Rochester, NY) got in on the action in between Bonnel and Daly’s final tallies.
Daly and Bonnel would each lead the Lady Falcons with four goals on the day while Daly also added three assists. Pfeiffer would out-shoot Saint Leo 35-11, control 17 of the 25 draws and cause 10 of the Lions’ 17 turnovers. Muir would lead Pfeiffer in the groundball department with five while Katherine Athens (Huntingtown, MD) scooped up eight ground balls.
