Softball Splits with Barton Trading 3-0 Wins in Home League-Openers on Monday
March 11, 2013
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Visiting Barton College and host Pfeiffer University traded a pair of 3-0 victories during their Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs slide to 4-12 overall, 1-5 in league play after the split while the Lady Falcons move to 8-12, 1-3.
All three Barton runs in game one would come in the fifth frame as a Rachel Jordan single put the Bulldogs on the board while a two-out, two-run single by Amanda Schatz added insurance. Barton stater Liz White was nearly untouchable throwing a perfect game for the first 4.1 innings until an infield single by Lindsey Russell broke up the bid in the fifth. White would strike out seven in her complete-game one-hitter.
Pfeiffer started getting their revenge in the second inning of game two as a Deanna Crayton sacrifice fly brough home Ashlee Ellen with an unearned run. In the third, Ellen delivered a sac-fly that brough home Hannah Jackson before Ellen blasted a solo home run in the sixth to add the third and final run. Lady Falcon starter Jessica Griffin was excellent in the circle tossing her complete-game allowing just five hits with four strikeouts in the win.
The Lady Falcons are back to Conference Carolinas action on 3:00 p.m. hosting Erskine College on Friday afternoon.
