Softball Bounces Back Again in Game Two to Earn League Split with Erskine
March 15, 2013
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University softball team once again bounced back from a game one defeat (2-1) to pick up a game two win (3-2 in eight innings) splitting with visiting Erskine College in Conference Carolinas softball action on Friday afternoon. The Lady Falcons move to 9-13 overall, 2-4 in league play while the Fleet slide to 6-11-1, 4-2.
Erskine would use an Ashlyn Hicks RBI-single in the first inning and a Larissa Shannon RBI-triple in the fifth to account for their pair of runs. Erskine would out-hit the Lady Falcons 11-1 as a Sadie Saine double in the fifth accounted for Pfeiffer's only hit during the opener.
Tied at 2-2 going to the eighth of game two, Celia Dew would scamper to third on a one-out wild pitch and score the game-winner on an Ashlee Ellen sacrifice fly to center. In the top of the inning, reliever Jessica Griffin would get a groundout to third and strikeout swinging to end the inning.
Earlier, both teams would trade runs in the fifth as a Julianna Bullington bases loaded walk provided Pfeiffer's tying-run after Hicks did the same for Erskine in their fifth. In the seventh, Bailey Thornton's RBI single would give the Fleet a 2-1 lead until Khristin Isley brought home Saine with the tying run on a single in the bottom of the seventh.
Pfeiffer will be back to action on Sunday afternoon hosting Coker at 1:00 p.m.
