March 27, 2013
BELMONT, N.C. - Pfeiffer University scored eight second half goals breaking a 4-4 tie en route to a 12-8 victory over Belmont Abbey College in Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons, ranked #8 in the latest USILA poll, win their sixth-straight improving to 10-1 overall, 4-0 in league play. The Crusaders see their mark drop to 7-4, 1-2 after the loss.
Robert Hope and Matt Michaeli opened up scoring for the Falcons before Belmont Abbey's Connor Sellars, Dan Morrissey and Daniel Marshall all followed to put the Crusaders up 3-2 after one. Kory Lutes would tie the contest at three with a goal 50 seconds into the second and after Morrissey hit again for the Crusaders, Lutes would net the game-tying goal with one second left in the half for a 4-4 draw at the break.
The third quarter belonged to Pfeiffer as a four-goal run started by Lutes again early in the period would give the Falcons a lead for good. Spencer Allen netted his lone goal of the day at the 7:31 mark before Elliot Gilbert tallied back-to-back strikes for an 8-4 advantage. Lutes and Gilbert would each hit for the final time in the fourth quarter while reigning player of the week Steven Tilmon tallied twice in the same frame.
Khalid Stukes would win 17 of the 22 faceoffs on Wednesday corraling five groundballs as a team high. Hayden Kirk would make nine saves in net improving his mark to 10-1 as well.
Pfeiffer returns to action after the Easter break traveling to Mount Olive for a 4:00 p.m. contest on Tuesday afternoon.
