April 11, 2013
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Pfeiffer University softball split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader at Limestone College on Thursday afternoon picking up a 3-2 victory in game two after falling 4-1 in the opener. The Lady Falcons end the day moving to 19-23 overall, 7-9 in league play while the Saints slide to 22-16, 14-4.
After Limestone scored two in the bottom of the first to begin the twinbill, the Lady Falcons would get on the board with a Lindsay Russell sacrifice fly in the second to score Sam Jarmusch. Jarmusch would begin the frame by lacing a double to left. The Saints added two more quick runs in the second to provide the final three-run difference.
Both teams would trade single runs in each of the first two innings of game two as the Lady Falcons would score their eventual game-winner in the top of the third. Ashlee Ellen would double home Sadie Saine in the first while Hannah Jackson singled home Khristin Isley with her single in the second. The game-winner came off the bat of Tyresha Ellis reaching on a fielder's choice in the third as Jarmusch scored from third.
Jarmusch would pick up the win inside the circle going all seven allowing just the two runs, one earned with three strikeouts to shut down the Saints. Pfeiffer gets right back to league action on Saturday traveling to Belmont Abbey for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
