Kassab Ties School-Record with Nine Goals as #6 Women's Lacrosse Dethrones Queens 17-9; Clinches #2 Seed in Next Weekend's Tournament

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University’s Ashleigh Kassab registered a game-high nine goals to tie a school-record and lead the sixth-ranked Lady Falcons to a 17-9 victory over Queens in Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon. The win sends the Lady Falcons to 13-1 overall, 5-1 in league play securing the league’s #2 seed in next weekend’s conference tournament. The Royals drop to 8-9, 5-2 with Saturday’s defeat.
Kassab would start the day’s scoring just 49 seconds into Saturday before the Royals took a 2-1 lead on back-to-back tallies from Jena Ready (Charlotte, NC) and Brittany Barnwell (Lorton, VA). After Kassab hit again to tie the contest at two 34 seconds after Barnwell, Queens would re-take the lead on a Nicole Forgione (Davidson, NC) unassisted goal at the 24:35 mark of the first.
Pfeiffer would go on to score the next eight-straight goals to bust out to a 10-3 lead. Shannon Bonnel (Mechanicsville, MD) would start the run after a Katherine Athens (Huntingtown, MD) assist while Sarah Daly proceeded with back-to-back assists on back-to-back Kassab goals. Bonnel struck for two more tallies to make it 7-3 until Carly Garrison (Orlando, FL) made it 8-3 halfway through the first. Daly and Kassab finished off the 8-0 run while Kassab sandwiched her final first half goal in-between the Royals’ Maggie Masters (Annapolis, MD) and Forgione hitting to end the half.
Queens got off to a quick start in the second as Ready and Masters each hit again to make it an 11-7 game 4:11 into the final half. The Lady Falcons would respond right back with three-straight goals as two more Kassab goals halted the run while Daly extended the advantage back to seven at the 17:35 mark of the second.
Kassab put home her ninth and school-record tying goal with 10:22 to play on an assist from Kristina Anderson (Gaithersburg, MD). Ready would hit on the final two goals of the day for Queens while Courtney Luther (Frederick, MD) and Garrison did the same for Pfeiffer.
Behind Kassab’s nine goals, Daly would finish the day with four assists while Andrea Archila (Olney, MD) picked up six groundballs. Britton Muir (Woodsboro, MD) scored a game-high six caused turnovers while Athens controlled seven draws.
