Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - A pair of four-run innings in game one helped Pfeiffer University split a Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader with visiting King on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons won the opener 9-5 improving to 18-25 overall, 11-7 in league play, while the Tornado picked up a 3-2 victory in game two moving to 26-16, 11-9.

Pfeiffer's first four-run frame came in the second of game one as Kyle Hackney picked up a RBI single before Kevin Price delivered a two-run single. Jacob Yates would finish the inning with a RBI double to bring home Kevin Price. After King cut the lead in half with single runs in the fourth and fifth, the Falcons would again put a four-spot on the board to grab an 8-2 advantage.

In the Pfeiffer fifth, Izzy Perez would belt a three-run homer to score Aarin Sharpe, who was hit by a pitch, and Matt Wade who recorded a single. Yates would later bring in Hackney on a base hit in the five-hit inning. The Tornado would get to within three scoring three in the seventh, but another plunking of Sharpe with the bases loaded brought home insurance for the Falcons. Wade, Hackney and Price would each register three hits in the win as Tyler Ring picked up the victory after seven innings of work and six strikeouts.

King brought home single runs in the first, third and fourth innings of game two grabbing a 3-0 lead before the Falcons finally got on the board with their two in the fourth. Jon Gray would start the frame by reaching on an error and later scoring on a passed ball while Hackney scored Cole McGraw on his final base hit. The Falcons would have chances to tie it in the fifth and sixth but King starter Corey Rhodes finished off his victory with seven innings of work allowing the two unearned runs with four strikeouts.

Both teams will look towards Sunday's rubber match as the three-game series concludes at 1:00 p.m.
