Backed by 10 Second Half Goals, #6 Women's Lacrosse Closes Out Regular Season with 17-6 Win over Lenoir-Rhyne

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University poured in 11 second-half goals en route to a 17-6 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon. The sixth-ranked Lady Falcons finish the regular season at 13-1 overall while the dropping the Bears to 7-6.
Four different Lady Falcons would score the game's first goals as Shannon Bonnel, Courtney Luther, Sarah Daly and Carly Garrison all found the back of the net within the first eight minutes on Wednesday. After the Bears tallied the next three, two by Mary Minick, Ashleigh Kassab and Bonnel would close out a low-scoring first half as Pfeiffer held a 6-3 lead at the break.
Garrison and Luther would quickly begin second half scoring for the Lady Falcons before Katherine Athens recorded back-to-back goals in front of a Gracie Herbert strike pushing the lead to 11-4 midway through the final period. After Kristina Anderson and Minick traded goals late, Pfeiffer would then reel off the final five goals, three by Daly, to take the 17-6 victory.
Athens would pick up a game-high five groundballs and three caused turnovers while Britton Muir controlled five draws. Rachel McCarthy picked up the win in goal stopping six saves altogether, four in the first half.
Pfeiffer will now get into postseason play beginning with Saturday's semifinal matchup with third-seeded Queens. The Lady Falcons will take the #2 seed into the weekend tournament which will be held at Williams Stadium in Burlington beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m.
