Mendoza Named Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year; Lindsay and Watson Join Minery from Men's Tennis on All-Conference Teams

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Conference Carolinas All-Conference Teams were announced on Thursday night and determined by vote from each Head Coach of participating league institutions.†Coaches determined†Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year and All-Conference Teams. Pfeiffer University's Valeria Mendoza was selected as Freshman of the Year for the Lady Falcons joining Taylor Lindsay and Hannah Watson on all-conference teams. Loic Minery represents the men with a first-team all-conference selection.

Awards were presented at the league tennis team banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships co-hosted by Erskine College and the Palmetto Park Tennis Complex in Sumter, SC.† This yearís award winners are as follows:

WOMEN'S TENNIS:

Player of the Year:
Corin Hallman, Erskine
Junior Corin Hallman led the Flying Fleet to a perfect 10-0 record in conference and the Fleetís third consecutive conference regular season title and their eighth regular season title in nine years. From her #1 singles and #1 doubles position, Hallman led the Fleet with a 17-3 singles record and was undefeated in conference at 10-0. In doubles, Hallman was 13-7 overall and 9-1 in conference.

Freshman of the Year:†
Valeria Mendoza, Pfeiffer
Valeria Mendoza has posted a 13-4 record in singles play and a 12-6 mark in doubles action during her rookie season to help guide Pfeiffer University to one of the best seasonís in Lady Falcons history. All 13 of Mendozaís singles wins were in straight-sets while half of her defeats came down to a third set. In doubles play with Taylor Lindsay, the duo would pick up 10 of their 12 victories cruising by four or more games.

Coach of the Year:†
Calhoun Parr, Erskine
Erskine Head Womenís Tennis Coach Calhoun Parr directed the Flying Fleet to their second consecutive perfect conference record with 10-0 record this season. In the process, the Fleet won their third consecutive conference regular season title and their eighth regular season title in nine years. It is the sixth time his coaching peers have voted him ďCoach of the Year.Ē

MEN'S TENNIS:

Player of the Year:
Carlos Yanes, Limestone
A four-time Player of the Week choice this season and the defending Conference Carolinas Menís Tennis Player of the Year, senior Carlos Yanes has been nearly unstoppable with an 18-4 singles mark, all at No. 1, and a 21-1 record at No. 1 doubles with senior Rafael Ferla.

Freshman of the Year:†
Andre Staab, Coker
Andre Staab put together an outstanding freshman season, leading the Cobras to their first ever Conference Carolinas title. Playing at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, Staab put together a singles record of 15-5 overall and a doubles record of 11-9 overall. Staab is also the first Cobra to ever earn an individual regional ranking, as the No. 12 menís tennis player in the Southeast Region.

Coach of the Year:†
Tom Simpson, Coker
Tom Simpson, in his second season at Coker, has led the menís team to a 16-4 overall record with a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play. Ranked No. 6 in the Southeast Region, Simpson has transformed the Cobras into a conference champion and a regional contender.
