August 26, 2013
MISENHEIMER, NC – Pfeiffer University head men's basketball coach Jeremy Currier announced Monday the naming of veteran coach Peter Schoch to the Falcon staff as an assistant coach.
Schoch comes to Pfeiffer University after spending the last 13 years as the head coach at Father Gabriel Richard High School in Michigan. Schoch built Father Gabriel into a powerhouse men’s program while leading his teams to five Detroit Catholic League Conference Championship, eight District Championships, one Regional Titles, and Michigan State Tournament Final Four appearances. Schoch was named the Detroit Catholic League Coach of the Year in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, named the Ann Arbor News Men’s Coach of the Year in 2006, and 2008, and honored by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan – Special Mention Coach of the Year Statewide in 2008.
“Pete Schoch built Father Gabriel into one of the top programs in the state of Michigan,” said Currier. “Pete has a brilliant basketball mind that will be a nice complement to our coaching staff. His success in scouting and developing young players will benefit our program immensely. We are pleased to have Pete on board as a Falcon.”
Schoch has a reputation for developing the complete student athlete, and helping young men reach their goals on and off the court. In his time at Father Gabriel, Schoch helped 16 players continue their careers at the collegiate level, including Eso Akunne and Pete Burak at the University of Michigan, Josh Herbeck at Army, Darren Washington at Robert Morris University, and Luther Page at Alabama State University.
"I am very excited about joining the Pfeiffer University basketball family," said Schoch. "Pfeiffer has such a fantastic basketball tradition. The opportunity to work with this coaching staff and our players is an incredible opportunity as we work to build a special program at Pfeiffer. I am looking forward to being part of it and helping in any way possible."
Schoch joins assistant coaches Darryl Slack and Ben McDonald, and Graduate Assistant Stuart Poplin to round out the Falcon coaching staff for the 2013-14 season.
