Women's Cross Country Pegged to Finish Seventh in Preseason Poll
August 30, 2013
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University women’s cross country team was pegged to finish seventh in the Conference Carolinas, the league announced on Friday afternoon. The Lady Falcons return eight runners from a season ago and are looking to climb the conference standings.
The team struggled with injuries in 2012, losing their top three runners at various parts of the season. However, Pfeiffer returns its top four runners, including junior captain Justine Serje, as the team looks to compete to get into the top half of the conference standings.
“We have a good group,” said Head Coach Scott Nolt. “We are going to rely on our returning runners but have a solid group of newcomers as well. I have been happy with what I have seen so far and am excited for the season to begin.”
King University was picked to finish first in the pre-season polls and is coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history. King will look to defend its Conference Carolinas title after winning the program’s first conference championship in 2012.
Mount Olive College was voted second in the pre-season poll after their second place finish in 2012, improving over the previous year’s third-place finish. The Trojans return four top-30 finishers, including an all-conference selection
Completing the top three, the Belmont Abbey women’s cross country team will look to take a big step forward from last year’s efforts, in which only two runners had ever competed in a collegiate race prior to last season.
The pre-season polls are completed with Barton, Erskine, Converse, Pfeiffer, North Greenville, Lees-McRae, and Limestone respectively.
