Chris Woods Continues Professional Career In Top Iceland Pro League

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Pfeiffer University basketball alum Chris Woods will continue his professional basketball career in Iceland, joining Valur Reykjavik. Woods has been competing professionally since the completion of his collegiate career in 2011.
During the 2010-11 campaign, Woods averaged 24.3 points and 10 rebounds per game. He also surpassed the 2,000-point mark for his career and was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year. The forward also was selceted to the First Team All-Southeast Region, earned First Team All-American accolades, and was the NABC Division II All Star Game’s Most Outstanding Player at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.
“Playing overseas has been a dream of mine for years and Pfeiffer University has helped to make that possible,” stated Woods. “I will never forget the hard work and dedication that helped me get here, and Coach Currier and Pfeiffer helped me lay that foundation. I am grateful and blessed for this opportunity.”
Since departing Misenheimer, Woods has had a successful professional career. In 2011, Chris was selected to the ABA All Star team while leading the Carolina Cheetahs in scoring and rebounding. In 2012, Woods joined Valur Reykjavik in Iceland who compete in the Division I Dominoes League.
Carolina Cheetahs head coach Kristina Baugh said, “Chris is a walking double-double every time he steps on the floor. He goes all-out on every play and takes great pride in his performance. He is our go-to-guy and always seems to make big plays when we need it the most.”
Woods was a 2011 graduate of Pfeiffer University, where he earned his degree in Criminal Justice.
