Cross Country Impressive in Conference Meet; Men Finish 4th

HARRISBURG, N.C. - The Pfeiffer men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Conference Carolinas meet on a cool and windy Friday afternoon at Frank Liske Park. The men's squad posted an impressive fourth place finish, while the women took home seventh-place. Each program improved upon last season's finish.
The men's team posted an average time of 27:38.92 for the 8-k course and placed six runners in the top 37. Pfeiffer was led by freshman Chris Laughlin who finished 24th overall. Laughlin cruised through the course in a blistering time of 27:05.78 with an average mile pace of 5:27.1. Trailing him was sophomore Henry Furman who posted a time of 27:40.42, good for 28th place. Freshmen Josh Wilhoit and Nicholas Owens finished back-to-back with times of 27:43.81 and 27:48.08 respectively. Sophomore Dillon Edwards and senior Cody Jones rounded out the top six for the Falcons. Mount Olive took home the top spot on the men's side and put five runners in the top 10.
On the women's side, Janna Featherstone paced the Lady Falcons, coming in 29th place with a time of 20:40.85. Sophomore Cori Newton was Pfeiffer's second best runner on the day, finishing the 5-k run in 20:54.31. Sophomores Christie Baran and Trista Byers finished 39th and 40th overall with times of 21:27.89 and 21:31.04 respectively. Freshman Mary Stegall rounded out Pfeiffer's top five with a time of 21:39.01. King took home the women's top spot, followed by Mount Olive and Barton.
The final meet of the season is on Nov. 9 in Charlotte as the men and women compete in the NCAA Regional Meet.
