November 6, 2013
MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University has announced the addition of an Indoor and Outdoor men’s and women’s track and field program which will begin competition in the 2014-15 season. The addition of the four teams brings Pfeiffer’s total varsity sports to 22, including all 20 offered by Conference Carolinas.
“This venture will be extremely beneficial to both Pfeiffer athletics and the entire University,” said President Mike Miller. “The addition of new track and field programs can only enhance the direction of the school. I would also like to thank North Stanly High School Principal Joy Hathcock and Athletic Director Jason Callicut for assisting us with facilities to train.”
Pfeiffer will use the North Stanly facility to practice throughout the season and beyond.
Currently, Pfeiffer houses 362 student athletes and should be approaching the 400 total in the near future.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our cross country programs, as well as our entire athletic department,” said Reasso. “I can’t thank the Athletics Committee and the Board of Trustees enough for supporting our vision for the athletic department.”
This endeavor also provides the Cross Country programs a chance to expand.
“This will allow even greater opportunities for cross country athletes to compete in the spring and qualify for, and compete in, the NCAA national track meet,” said Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach Scott Nolt. “The addition of track and field will put us on equal footing with the rest of the conference, not only for cross country but as an athletic department.”
A national search for a Head Coach will begin immediately with a target hire
date of January 1 to allow for an opportunity to recruit student-athletes.
