Women's Hoops Drops Tough Home Contest to North Greenville

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Despite a 16 point performance from freshman Alexis Stallard, the Pfeiffer University women's basketball team lost a hard-fought battle to conference foe North Greenville on Wednesday night.  Stallard is currently averaging 11.6 points per game and tonight marked her sixth game in double-figure scoring this season.  Stallard was also 6 of 16 from the field, shot 50% from the charity stripe, and currently leads the team in steals with 21, adding two to her total this evening.  The loss drops Pfeiffer to 1-5 in Conference Carolinas action and 2-12 on the season.  With the win, the Crusaders improve to 5-9 overall and pickup their first conference victory making them 1-5 in conference play.

The evening began just the way the Falcons had planned and following a barrage of shots over the first eight minutes of play, Pfeiffer found themselves up on the visitors by five, 14-9.  The next six minutes however, would be all North Greenville.  Following a 19-0 run by the Crusaders, Pfeiffer found themselves staring at a 14-point deficit with 6:10 left to play in the half.  A layup by junior Carter Williams broke North Greenville's streak, but the hole would prove to be too deep, and the Falcons would not come within ten points of the visiting team for the rest of the game.  The Crusaders were led by Alisha Hope who finished with the game's only double-double and led all players with 24 total points.  Hope rounded out her double-double with ten total rebounds, also a game-high.

Stallard got a little help on the scoreboard from junior Lauren White who chipped in eight points and shot four of seven from the field in only 11 minutes of playing time.  The Falcons shot 72% from the charity stripe as a team, put up seven blocks, and 40 total rebounds.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Saturday January 18th when they take on Erskine at 5:30 pm in Merner Gym.  The game will be the first half of a doubleheader with the men's team.
