Baseball Continues Hot Start; Defeat Limestone and Francis Marion to Improve to 3-0

Game 1   Game 2

FLORENCE, SC - The Pfeiffer baseball team (3-0) won both its games in the Francis Marion tournament and came home from the invitational undefeated. Pfeiffer topped Limestone 10-9 in the opener, and then beat the host Patriots 4-3 in the night cap.

Against Limestone, Pfeiffer scored all 10 of their runs in a three inning span and held off a Limestone rally to come away with the one run decision. Outfielder Jon Gray knocked in three runs and catcher Dalton Lindley went 2-for-4 with two runs, a home run and four RBI's. Centerfielder Kevin Price went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI's out of the ninth spot in the lineup.

Pfeiffer trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the second but erupted for four in the second, and three in each of the third and fourth innings. The Falcons nearly let a 10-3 lead slip away, as Limestone cut the lead to 10-9 in the top of the eighth and had the tying run on second base with one out in the ninth inning.

Keith Little started and allowed seven runs in five innings. Relievers Zach Huneycutt, Hunter Jobe and Dylan Norris threw four innings without allowing an earned run.

Pfeiffer pounded out 13 hits against Francis Marion in the second game. John Elwood had three hits and Price knocked in three of Pfeiffer's four runs. Tyler Lequire went four innings and allowed only one hit and one unearned run on the mound, before giving way to the bullpen. Josh Branch recorded the win with two shutout innings and Norris got his second save in as many games.

Pfeiffer's three games in the Francis Marion Tournament happened in a 24 hour span as their opener was delayed five hours. The weary Falcons didn't let the tough schedule stop them from starting off the season in an impressive manor. Pfeiffer will look to continue their hot streak as they travel to Nova Southeastern for a double header on Feb. 9.
