Men's Hoops Drops Conference Game to North Greenville; Five Falcons in Double Figures
February 15, 2014
TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Despite five players scoring in double figures and scoring an impressive 27 points off of turnovers, the Pfeiffer University men's basketball team lost to conference foe North Greenville Saturday night, 102-89. The loss drops the Falcons to 5-18 on the season and 2-11 in Conference Carolinas play. North Greenville improves to 13-10 and 6-7 in the conference with the win.
Pfeiffer took control of the game early, going up 2-0 only 90 seconds into the game off of a beautiful jumper by freshman Charlie Wagoner. Following a North Greenville free throw to put the Crusaders within one, Keith Johnson hit a three-pointer with 17:38 to play in the first half, erasing the Falcons' lead and putting his team in control for the next eleven-plus minutes. With six minutes left in the first half however, sophomore David McNair hit a jumper to tie the game at 29 apiece. A quick shot by Chris Dean on North Greenville's next possession put the Crusaders in the lead for good. McNair would finish with Pfeiffer's only double-double, shooting a stellar 60 percent from the field, scoring 12 points and grabbing ten rebounds.
Leading the way for the Falcons were sophomores Silvere Aluko and AJ Clark who put up 17 points apiece. Aluko added five blocks, bringing his team-leading total to 63 blocks for the season. Aluko is currently second in the conference in total blocks this season, trailing only North Greenville's Phillip Brown who knocked down a game-high seven blocks this evening.
Other Falcons chipping in were Wagoner who put up eleven points on perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the field, and sophomore Matt Ellwood who added ten of his own. Thomas Horn led all players in scoring with 29 points for North Greenville.
Pfeiffer hopes to snap their three-game losing streak when they take on Barton on February 19th. Tip-off is 7:30 pm in Merner Gym.
