Williams Ties School Record With 8 Three Pointers as Women's Basketball Wins Home Finale

Box Score

MISENHEIMER, NC - Carter Williams set a career-high with 28 points and tied a school record with eight three pointers, leading the Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-20, 4-13 CC) to a dominating 81-58 win over Converse (1-25, 1-17) in the Falcons home finale. Williams hit all eight of her three pointers in the first half on 12 attempts and added five rebounds and two assists and two steals.

Williams misfired on two of her first three attempts from long range before catching fire. The junior rebounded to go 7-of-9 over the final 12:20 of the half, including hitting three consecutive attempts from behind the arc. With the Falcons holding a slight 23-21 lead with eight minutes to play, Williams went on a personal 9-2 run pushing Pfeiffer's lead to nine points. Brittney Washington scored five straight to cap a 14-2 run that gave the Falcons a 37-23 lead with 3:54 to go. Just as Converse trimmed the deficit to 11 with under a minute to go in the half, Williams struck again. Alexis Stallard dished a pass to Williams who buried a three with 44 seconds remaining. The ensuing inbounds pass was stolen by Lauren White who found an open Williams for another three, her second in a 15 second stretch. The Falcons went into the break with a 45-28 lead.

Pfeiffer never looked back in the second half and stretched the lead to as many as 30 on a pair of Williams' free throws. Williams had a chance to break the school record late in the second half, but her shot from the top of the arc narrowly rattled out.

Thanks to Williams' hot night, Pfeiffer knocked down a season-high 14 three pointers, two shy of the school record. Pfeiffer also recorded a season best 19 assists and scored more than 80 points for the third time this season.

Stallard finished the evening with 14 points and seven assists, while White chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots.

Converse was led by 17 points from Erin Horne and 11 each from Margo Dill and Jenna White. Pfeiffer's defense held the Valkyries to 33.3 percent shooting in the second half and caused 28 Converse turnovers.

Pfeiffer finished the contest with a 39.7 percent shooting percentage from the floor and a 37.8 percentage from long range. Pfeiffer converted on 17-of-21 free throws, good for 81 percent.

Williams is now tied with Brittany Cox (2013), Jodie Lemons (2012) and Angie Little (1988) for the most three's in a game. Coincidentally, Cox knocked down eight triples against Converse almost exactly a year ago to the day, accomplishing the feat on Feb. 23.

The Falcons have one game remaining, a makeup game against Erskine set for Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
