Softball Scores Most Runs In A Game Since 2009; Dominate Livingstone
March 6, 2014
MISENHEIMER, NC – The Pfeiffer softball team (6-8) scored its most runs in a game since Mar. 11 2009 as they dominated Livingstone (2-1), 16-0 in five innings. On a cold and windy afternoon, Pfeiffer pounded out 16 hits and accounted for 14 runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.
12 different Falcons recorded a hit in the game and four players recorded multi-hit efforts as the team hit a scorching .667 (16-for-24) for the game.
Kaitlin Macmillan started and went three innings to earn the win, while Jessica Griffin tossed two perfect innings of relief. Shantiqua Dowe was charged with all 16 runs in her four innings of work and didn’t record a single strikeout.
Summer Pope came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with three RBI’s. The catcher hit a mammoth homerun to left center field as part of an eight run fourth inning. Rebecca Foil also went 2-for-3 with three RBI’s.
Pfeiffer started slowly, recording just single runs in the first and second innings. However, Sadie Saine started the third-inning rally with a double down the left field line. Lindsey Russell drove Saine in with an RBI single and Julie Bullington later plated Russell with a sacrifice fly. Foil delivered the biggest blow of the inning as she stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and laced a triple to left field. In total, Pfeiffer scored six runs on six hits in the frame.
In the fourth inning alone, Pope had a double and the aforementioned home run as the Falcons sent 11 batters to the plate. Eight runs crossed on six hits and the route was on.
The run total was the most since the Falcons scored 18 against Johnson C. Smith in 2009.
Pfeiffer looks to build off the offensive outburst as they return to action Sunday for a doubleheader against Tusculum. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Jack Ingram Field.
