#11 Men's Lacrosse Downs #13 Dominican to Stay Undefeated at Home
March 11, 2014
MISENHEIMER, N.C. - A ten day break was just what the #11 Pfeiffer men's lacrosse team needed to get back on track with their winning ways, welcoming the #13 Dominican University of California to the Village of Misenheimer and N.E. Lefko Field. Pfeiffer dominated all but the middle two quarters en route to a 21-13 defeat of the Penguins. With the win the Falcons improve to 4-1, handing Dominican (2-1) their first loss of the season.
Pfeiffer scored four straight goals to open the first frame, waiting over five minutes to notch their first one and then never letting up. Second quarter scoring was extremely close with Pfeiffer only squeaking out one more goal than the visiting team, making the score at the end of two, 9-5 in favor of the Falcons. The third period was closer still, with each team scoring five apiece and Dominican remaining within four goals of the home team.
By the time the final stanza had begun, the Falcons had decided that their home field must be defended. Pfeiffer scored seven goals in the fourth quarter, three of which were credited to redshirt-junior Tucker Hammock who finished with a game-high seven tallies. Hammock leads the team in goals with 20 so far this season accounting for almost a quarter of the team's season goals, and boasting a .435 season shot percentage. Senior Hayden Kirk picked up the win in goal for Pfeiffer, snatching 13 saves to improve his season total to 46. Seniors Spencer Allen and Stephen Tilmon led all players in the assist column with three apiece.
The Falcons hope to continue their winning ways when they welcome Lake Erie to N.E. Lefko Field on March 15th for a non-conference matchup. Start is set for 1:00 p.m.
