Baseball Drops Home Game to St. Andrews

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University baseball team could not string together enough runs Wednesday afternoon as they drop a non-conference matchup to St. Andrews.  Despite taking the early 2-1 lead, the Falcons gave up seven unanswered runs as they dropped the contest 8-2.  With the loss the Falcons fall to 14-9 and St. Andrews improves to 11-8.

After stranding the game’s first run in the bottom of the first, the Knights struck for one run on two hits in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons responded in the bottom of the third inning as they scored two runs on three hits.  The inning began with back-to-back singles by Kevin Price and Jon Gray.  Next up to bat was Cole McGraw who singled up the middle to plate the Falcons first run.  With runners at the corners and Tyler Summers up to bat, the Falcons succeeded in a double steal as McGraw took second and Gray scored.  This proved to be the Falcons final run of the game as they took a 2-1 lead into the top of the fourth inning.

The Knights responded quickly as they scored two unearned runs on two hits and one error to regain the lead 3-2, a lead that would never be relinquished.  St. Andrews went on to plate five more runs over the duration of the next three innings, to extend their lead to six runs.

St. Andrews’s Kyle Schade led all players in the hit column with three hits on the game.  Pfeiffer had three players hit .500 as Summers, Price, and Dylan Goodman each went 2-for-4.

Freshman Craig Jacobelli earned the call on the mound as he pitched four and two-thirds inning, giving up six runs, one earned, on just four hits.  With the outing, Jacobelli falls to 0-1 on the season.

Max Everingham earned the win for the Knights as he pitched seven innings giving up two earned runs on eight hits.  Everingham improves to 2-1 on the season with the win today.

The Falcons return to action Friday, March 14 as they travel to conference foe Mount Olive.  First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
