Men's Tennis Easily Dispatches the Crusaders

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Following their upset over the 38th ranked Saints, the Pfeiffer men’s tennis team defeated Belmont Abbey in convincing fashion by a score of 9-0 on Thursday at the Knapp Tennis Center. With the win Pfeiffer improves to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas action. Belmont Abbey falls to 1-10 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
Pfeiffer got off to the early 3-0 lead in doubles play as the team of Loic Minery and Sebastian Wernecke as well as the team of Stephen Miller and Bret Williams easily dispatched their opponents by scores of 8-3 and 8-4. The final doubles play was a Pfeiffer win by default as the Crusaders did not have enough to compete in a third team.
Having to default the sixth singles position, the Crusaders found themselves down 4-0 early before singles play began.
Minery started things off on the right track for the Falcons as he defeated Conner McMann 6-3, 6-1 in the number one singles position. The win clinched the match for Pfeiffer as they were up 5-0 at the conclusion of Minery’s game.
Pfeiffer did not let off the gas, as Axel Woerner fought hard to upend Juan Baez in straight sets by scores of 7-5, 6-0.
Wernecke, Jimmy Molina, and Williams easily dismantled their opponents in the number three, four, and five positions.
Pfeiffer returns to action Saturday, March 29 as they travel to Erskine for a 1:00 p.m. start time.
