Men's Lacrosse Knocked Off in Conference Carolinas Semifinal

MOUNT OLIVE, NC – In the Conference Carolinas Semifinal game, the No. 3 seed Mount Olive Trojans (13-2) hung on to knock off Pfeiffer (9-5) in men’s lacrosse action. Despite holding a 45-31 advantage in shots, the Falcons were on the wrong side of a 10-6 decision on Wednesday evening.
Mount Olive’s goalkeeper Ross Bowman made 19 saves to earn the win, while Hayden Kirk made 10 stops.
Spencer Allen struck just 16 seconds into the contest on an unassisted goal. However, Pfeiffer would not score for the rest of the half and were held off the scoreboard for the next 32:03 of game action.
Mount Olive scored four straight goals, two on extra man opportunities, and would carry the 4-1 lead into the break.
Thomas broke the scoreless drought for Pfeiffer as he cut the deficit to 4-2 at the 12:41 mark of the third period on an unassisted goal. However, Mount Olive scored consecutive goals to push the advantage to 6-2. Tucker Hammock scored with 58 seconds to play in the third period as the Falcons went into the final 15 minute frame trailing 6-3.
Mount Olive seized the momentum by scoring two straight goals, with the first strike coming only 20 seconds into the period. Trailing 8-3, Pfeiffer refused to give up. At the 7:03 mark, Steven Tilmon beat Bowman and Allen set up Thomas for another score 1:01 later. Unfortunately, Tilmon was whistled for a penalty following Thomas’ score and Brett Kingston capitalized for the Trojans on the man advantage.
Robert Hope again cut the lead to three but Pfeiffer couldn’t draw any closer before Mount Olive added the final score of the contest with 38 seconds to play.
Cameron Walsh scored three times for Mount Olive who advances to take on Limestone in Sunday’s championship game. Kingston and Dan Shields each finished with four points for the Trojans.
