Men's Soccer Predicted to Finish Fifth in Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll
August 26, 2014
HIGH POINT, N.C. – A season ago, the Pfeiffer men’s soccer team was picked to finish ninth in the Conference Carolinas preseason coaches’ poll. The Falcons finished fifth in the conference standings and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament. This season, Pfeiffer was selected to finish fifth in the preseason voting.
Last year’s run ended in penalty kicks against top-seeded Erskine in the semifinals but Pfeiffer achieved its first double digit win total since the 2009 season. Pfeiffer was hot at the end of the year as the team went 6-2 over its final eight games and then went on the road to defeat Lees-McRae in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament.
Pfeiffer returns last year’s leading goal scorer in sophomore Nathan Regis. Regis was named to the Third Team All-Conference in 2013 during his first season at Pfeiffer. Regis’ 10 goals ranked him third in the conference and his 22 points slotted him sixth in the league, all despite missing three matches due to injury.
A strong group of seniors will look to lead the Falcons to greater heights in 2014. Defenders Luke Janes and Niko Andrade, along with forward Corey Davis and midfielders Chandler Ligas and Trevor Dean, will look to push Pfeiffer into the upper echelon of the conference.
Also returning is goalkeeper Nicolas Dulac who started 19 of 20 matches in his freshman season and finished with a 9-8-2 record and posted three shutouts.
Pfeiffer boasts a deep and talented crop of newcomers whom enter their first season on N.E. Lefko Field. The group is led by Jamie Siaj, Martin Galvao, Jorge Buzzo and Mateo Yepes-Garces.
Pfeiffer begins the season on Sept. 5 as they travel to Millersville, PA to take on the Millersville Marauders. Pfeiffer opens conference play on Sept. 13 as they host Limestone who was voted as the preseason favorite in the league.
