Falcons Win Again
Tuesday, 18 December 2007
Washington, D.C.--Adversity has come at the Pfeiffer University men's basketball team from so many different angles this season, it is hard to keep track. Tuesday night in came in the form of Craig Thomas getting sick and playing just and few minutes, and a knee injury that knocked Clyde Chapman out of the game and possibly longer. The 2007-08 Falcons again found a way, in a 102-88 win over Columbia Union in Washington DC.

Thomas Carr made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points and Chapman had 18 points on only eight shots in 16 minutes before being injured. Logan Call continues his tear with 14 points and 12 rebounds and freshman Chris Woods bounces back from a tough outing vs. Davis and Elkins in his last game to score 16 points and pull down eight rebounds. Freshman point guard Quintel Maxwell, who has been thrown into the fire due to injuries to several key players had 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Pfeiffer had another strong rebounding game, dominating the backboards with a 58-35 advantage. Despite allowing 88 points, Pfeiffer held the Pioneers to 43% shooting from the field. The Falcons led 49-47 at halftime and Columbia Union took the lead three minutes into the second half, before Pfeiffer went on a run that got them as much as a 20 point lead. It was the 6th consecutive win for Pfeiffer after starting the year 0-3.

"This group of young men keep finding ways to make positive things happen," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "Logan has been outstanding the last couple of games and we need him. Clyde was playing outstanding basketball before his injury and I was afraid we would not be able to play without him and Craig. Thomas continues to make big shots from the perimeter which really has helped open up the middle for our post players. Freshman Chris Woods and Quintel Maxwell both were terrific tonight. We have been winning games with our defense and our rebounding and that sets this team apart from our other groups."

Pfeiffer is now on break for the holidays and returns to action January 7th when they travel to Barton.
