Pfeiffer Defeats Knights 3-1

ljubicic.jpgMisenheimer, NC---The Pfeiffer volleyball team defeated St. Andrews Presbyterian 3-1 (26-30,30-23,30-16,30-24,) Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action. The Falcons are now 13-8 overall and 7-4 in the conference. The Knights fall to 9-15 and 8-5.

The Knights won a close game one 30-26. The teams battled evenly at the start and a Lauren Spiotta kill gave the Falcons a 17-14 lead. The Knights came back with 5-0 run to take a lead they would never let go of. Kills by Brittany Dickens and Morgan Liebert got the Falcons within one at 24-25 but St. Andrews held on to win the opening game.

Pfeiffer came back to take game two. Three kills by Lauren Elmore kept the Falcons in the game early and the score was tied at 13. A 7-1 run put Pfeiffer up 25-18. THe Falcons kept up the pressure and won game two 30-23.

Game three was dominated by the Falcons. After the game wa 5-5, a Gabby McKinley kill gave Pfeiffer a 6-5 lead. The Falcons kept building on their lead. Two straight kills by Petra Ljubicic gave Pfeiffer a 25-14 advantage. The Falcons closed out the game 30-16.

Pfeiffer had to come from behind to win game four. The Knights came out strong and took a 15-12 lead. However, Pfeiffer went on an 11-0 run to take command. Both teams fought hard but the Falcons won game four 30-24.

Petra Ljubicic led Pfeiffer with 17 kills. Lauren Spiotta added 12 kills. Morgan Liebert added 38 assists. Brittnay Poole had 16 digs.

St. Andrews was led by Galina Poololsky who had 14 kills. Jaime Hayes had 32 assists and Erin Haugen had 33 digs.

Pfeiffer will next play on Tuesday. They travel to Queen for a 6:30 pm game.
