| Misenheimer, NC---Pfeiffer defeated Lees-McRae 88-75 to win the Bobby Lutz Invitational Tournament Saturday night. The Falcons (4-0) broke open a tight game in the second half to claim the title over the Bobcats (2-2). DeMario Grier was named tournament MVP after scoring 26 points in the championship game. After the score was tied at 10 at the 14:56 mark, the Bobcats went on a 10-2 run to take the lead. Pfeiffer came back, soon after, with a 12-0 run to take a 28-24 advantage at the 8:02 mark. It went back and forth for the rest of the half and at the break the score was tied at 40. Both teams shot well in the first half and were even in turnovers at 9. Grier led the Falcons with 12 points, while Aaron Duggar scored 15 for the Bobcats. Down 43-42 the Falcons went on a 10-0 run to take control of the game early in the second half. Tavares Cooper hit 2 free throws with 12:41 left to give Pfeiffer a 60-49 advantage, the Falcons' lead never went below double digits the rest of the game. Pfeiffer shot 86% from the free throw line in the second half to secure the win. Grier had 26 points to lead Pfeiffer. Cooper added 14 points. Logan Call chipped in 14 points and Cortland Thomas added 13. Pfeiffer outrebounded the Bobcats 31-27. The Falcons also won the battle from the free throw line making 16 more, 34-18. DeMario Grier was named Tournament MVP. Joining him on the All-Tournament Team were Tavares Cooper and Logan Call from Pfeiffer, Henry Williams and Aaron Dugger from Lees-McRae, and ReShaun Reeves from King College. Pfeiffer will return to action Thursday when they host Belmont-Abbey at 7:30 pm. |
