| The Pfeiffer men's basketball team made 20 3-pointers, scored 66 first half points and defeated Allen University on the road Tuesday 120-91. The Falcons shot an amazing 59% (20-34) from beyond the arc, 84% (16-19) from the free throw line and 54% from the field (42-70). Pfeiffer also outrebounded Allen 47-31, forced 19 turnovers and led 66-40 at the half. Logan Call again led Pfeiffer with 24 points on 8-11 shooting. He was 4-5 from the 3-point line, 4-4 at the free throw line, added six rebounds and four assists in only 18 minutes of playing time. Chris Woods again came up big on the backboards with 14 rebounds and scored 18 points on 8-12 from the field in 17 minutes of playing time. Thomas Carr had 15 points on 5-10 from beyond the arc. Robert McGriff had 12 points and four assists on 3-4 shooting and 6-6 at the charity stripe. Alvin Slaton had 11 points and was 3-4 from the 3-point line. Craig Thomas was a perfect 3-3 from the field and had seven rebounds and Jeff Pettiway had seven assists. Sophomore Derrick Truesdale and freshman Austin Haugh were both 2-2 from the 3-point line and freshman Jamie D'Amaral made his only 3-point attempt. "I have seen some offensive explosions in my time at Pfeiffer, but I cannot ever remember making 20 3-point shots," said Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis. "These were much better shots than we have been taking as almost all of them came off dribble penetration and kick outs. We had a season high 26 assists and many times we had guys showing how unselfish they are by trading good shots for great ones. We had 18 offensive rebounds and several of our three's came off passes from these rebounds. Logan has been on a tear lately and Chris Wood's rebounding is the reason we are winning games. Our guys have worked very hard getting in the gym at night after they have practiced and getting up additional shots and that hard work is really starting to pay dividends. Our defensive effort was tremendous again and that is two games in a row we have played on both ends. Our rebounding was dominant tonight and we are a very good team when this happens." Pfeiffer won for the 3rd time in a row and 13 of their last 14 games. The Falcons are 19-5 overall and 14-3 in Conference Carolina's. Pfeiffer travels to Anderson on Saturday and returns home for Belmont Abbey next Tuesday. |
