| Misenheimer, NC---Kalee Smith hit two free throws with 2.3 seconds left to seal an 86-82 win for Pfeiffer over Converse Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action. With the victory the Falcons avenge an earlier defeat to Converse. Pfeiffer is now 5-5 on the season while Converse falls to 2-15. Down 8-7 the Falcons used two three-point plays to take a 13-8 lead after four minutes of play. Converse came back and took a 21-20 lead at the 11:30 mark. Two Ashelle Athill free throws gave the Falcons the lead again at 24-23 with 8:51 to go. Converse took a 31-26 lead but a Shanee’ Purnell three-point play sparked a 8-2 Falcon run that gave Pfeiffer a 34-33 lead at the 3:38 mark. Dominque China hit “3” with a minute to go to give Pfeiffer a 40-37 advantage. Pfeiffer went into the halftime break up 44-41. A 9-0 Falcon run gave Pfeiffer a 58-50 lead with 13:30 left in the game. Domonique China hit a driving lay-up with 10 minutes to go to push the Falcon lead to double-digits at 69-59. Converse fought back to tie the game at 75. China hit a 15 foot jumper with 2:30 to go to give Pfeiffer the lead again at 81-79 and the Falcons would hit their free throws down the stretch to keep the lead including the two Smith free throws that sealed the win. China scored 17 to lead the Falcons. Kalee Smith and Ashelle Athill each had 15. Smith also pulled down 8 rebounds to lead Pfeiffer. Shay Walker had 25 points to lead Converse. Sydney Brown added 23. Pfeiffer will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Barton for a 5:30pm game. |
