|Misenheimer- The Pfeiffer softball team dropped a game one heart breaker in 10 innings to Catawba only to see game two halted at the top of the sixth inning with Pfeiffer leading 6-1. In game one both teams had chances to win in regulation but after seven complete the score was knotted at 4 a piece. Because of the international tie breaker rule, each team starts extra innings with a runner at second base. Catawba started things off and plated three runs in the top of the eighth inning. Trailing 7-4 the Falcon's led the inning off with a fly out to centerfield followed by consecutive hits from Jessica Culler and pinch hitter Christi Sink which cut the lead to 7-5. After the Catawba pitcher recorded another K sophomore leftfielder Stephanie Bethea reached on an error loading the bases with two outs for fellow sophomore Martina Bullard. After taking the first pitch for a ball Bullard lined a single into right center field which tied the game at 7. After neither team scored in the ninth Catawba pushed across one in the tenth and Pfeiffer was unable to answer ending the game 8-7. "I am proud of the way the team battled all game long," Said Head Coach Todd Bradley. "There is no quit in this team every time we get into a tough situation this team responds and I know it will pay off in the end." |
After the game one heartbreaker Pfeiffer responded immediatly. In the bottom of the first inning after a leadoff fly out, Bullard doubled, Dacia Ijames walked, Jaimee Cassidy singled driving in Bullard and Sarah Moore reached on a fielder's choice. Junior second baseman Stephanie Brandt was hit by a pitch loading the bases for Jessica Culler who singled plating two runs and giving the Falcon's a 3-0 lead after one. Pfeiffer went on to score a run in the second, one in the third and one more in the fith before the game was halted due to darkness. The Falcon's lead the game 6-1 and if no time is found to finish the last two inning Pfeiffer will be declared the winner. Jaimee Cassidy was 3 for 3 and the Falcon's had 11 hits.
