Misenheimer, NC---Pre-Season All-American DeMario Grier scored 26 to lead Pfeiffer (1-0) to a 108-73 victory over visiting Allen (0-1) Wednesday night. Logan Call added 20 and Tavares Cooper had 19. Pfeiffer forced 31 turnovers and shot 57% from the field in the victory.
Pfeiffer used their up-tempo offense and pressure defense to win their opener against Allen University by a score of 108-73. Allen had an early lead of 10-7 but the Falcons held Allen scoreless over the next four minutes and went on a 10-0 run to take a 17-10 advantage. Allen came back and tied the score at 22 with 7:08 left in the half. Pfeiffer went on a 12-0 run over the next 2:11, behind two Grier three-pointers, to take control. Pfeiffer kept up their pressure and built a 49-30 lead at the break. The Falcons forced 21 turnovers and held Allen to 40% shooting in the first half.
Pfeiffer scored the first 5 points of the second half to give Allen no chance to come back. Pfeiffer shot over 60% from the field in the second half as they built their lead to as much as much as 44 before finally winning by 35. Pfeiffer used a total team effort as all 13 players contributed with eleven different Falcons scoring.
Grier led Pfeiffer with 26 points including 7 three-pointers. Call and Cooper controlled the paint as they combined for 39 points on 16 for 20 shooting. Point guards Robert McGriff and Derek Moore ran the Falcon offense nearly flawlessly combining for 15 assists and only 2 turnovers.
Coach Davis added, "I thought our defensive intensity was terrific for a full forty minutes. Robert McGriff was awesome at the point with 7 assists and only 1 turnover. Our inside presence was outstanding as Logan scored 20 on 9-13 shooting and Tavares shooting 7-7 and scoring 19 points. DeMario played a complete game for us scoring 26 and taking probably six charges."
Pfeiffer will return to action next Tuesday when they host Mount Olive at 7:30 pm in their conference opener.
