FALCONS FALL IN QUARTERFINAL GAME, 13-10
Misenheimer, NC Ė The Pfeiffer Falcons fell to the Bobcats of Lee-McRae College 13-10 on Tuesday afternoon in the Conference Carolinas menís lacrosse tournament quarterfinal round.† The Falcons ended their season with an overall mark of 7-5 (3-2 conf.).† Despite the disappointing end to the season the Falcons earned their best overall record since the 1997-98 season.† Lees-McRae improves to 2-9 overall and moves on to semifinal game against Queens University of Charlotte on Friday.Pfeiffer got on the board first by scoring four goals in the first 13 minutes before the Bobcats could get on the board.† LMC tallied two goals in the last minute of the first period to take the score to 4-2. In the second stanza the Bobcats outscored the Falcons 3-2 to take the score to 6-5 going into the half with Pfeiffer holding the slight advantage.†
Both teams came out strong in the second half. Pfeiffer was anxious to build a solid lead over the Bobcats and LMC wanted to gain the advantage for the first time.† Each team scored three goals in the third period and kept Pfeiffer ahead.† The Falcons were unable to protect their lead and were outscore 5-1 in the final period.† At the final buzzer the score rested at 13-10 with LMC taking the victory.
Pfeiffer was outshot 48-31 and LMC held the edge in the battle for ground balls, 45-32.† The Falcons won only 7 of 26 faceoffs.† Bobcat Brandon Snyder (Longwood, FL) won 17 of his 24 faceoff attempts.† The Falcons were able to convert on 2-6 extra-man opportunities, slightly better than the Bobcats who were 2-7.
Pfeiffer was led by Shawn Cross (Cranberry Township, PA) who marked five points on the day off of four goals and one assist. Chad Olsen (Great Mills, MD) also tallied five points. He had three goals and two assists. Each grabbed one ground ball.† Rob Adams (Concord, NC) added two goals and scooped up two ground balls. Kevin Anderson (Altamonte Springs, FL) grabbed six ground balls.† Jimmy Dyches (Abingdon, MD) made 15 saves for the Falcons in 60 minutes of play in the net and scooped up two ground balls.
Matt Markey (Burlington, NC), Brandon Marks (Durham, NC), and Kyle Ficken (Brooklyn Park, MN) all tallied two goals apiece for the Bobcats. Landon Young (Saskatoon, SK) scooped up eight ground balls.† Andy Nesdill (Phoenix, AZ) made 12 saves in goal for LMC.
