JEFFERSON CITY, T.N. -- The 17th-ranked Carson-Newman women's soccer team won its fourth-straight match on Saturday night by shutting out Pfeiffer, 3-0, at McCown Field. With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season, while Pfeiffer drops to 1-1-1. C-N outshot the Falcons 18-2 on the night, including 12 shots on goal.
Despite being on the attack for most of the first half, the Lady Eagles managed just one goal before heading into the locker room. C-N found success in the 26th minute, as Sandra Kaelin (Switzerland) fired a shot into the right corner of the net past Pfeiffer keeper Suzie Hinman to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead.
C-N put the match away early in the second half by scoring two goals in the first 13 minutes. Nikki Brannen (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) gave the Lady Eagles a 2-0 lead as she dribbled past Hinman and placed the ball in the back of the net in the 51st minute.
The Lady Eagles pushed their lead to 3-0 less than six minutes later, as Morgan Gruenenfelder (Sweetwater, Tenn.) finished off a pass from Brannen in the 58th minute. Hinman tallied nine saves on the night, while C-N goalkeeper Lauren MacKenzie (Barrie, Ontario) collected two saves.
The Pfeiffer Lady Falcons will return home on Wednesday afternoon against USC-Aiken. The festivities will begin at 4:00 p.m.
