MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University used four second-half goals en route to a 4-0 clean sheet over Anderson in a Conference Carolinas women’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon at a soggy N.E. Lefko Field. With the victory, the Lady Falcons push their overall record to 3-3-3, 1-1-2 in conference action. Anderson falls to 1-6, 1-3.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes of play, Pfeiffer held a 9-6 advantage in shots but Anderson had the 5-3 lead with shots on goal. Jessica Moulton (Huntingtown, MD) led the Lady Falcons with three shots in the half while Larissa Fedorowich (Mississauga, ONTARIO) led Anderson with three. The best opportunity went to the hosts as Moulton fired a shot late in the period that was knocked down by Trojan keeper Kelli Whitfield (Anderson, SC).
Freshman Sheena Regan (Chesapeake, VA) put the Lady Falcons on the board with a tap-in during the 55th minute of play. Ashleigh Rhoads (Palm Bay, FL) and Vanessa Gallegos (Cheyenne, WY) picked up the assists. After the initial goal, the Lady Falcons put three more on the board in just under four minutes.
Sam Brown put home her third of the year on a 1-on-1 tap in against Whitfield thanks to a long pass from Alyssa Wombwell (Grand Blanc, MI) in the 75th minute. 90 seconds later, Brianne Cleary (Huntingtown, MD) took an intercepted pass by Wombell to tally her first of the season. Wombwell then finished things off herself in the 79 minute with a header from Ashley Hawkins’ (Madison, NC) cross.
Larissa Fedorowich (Mississauga, ONTARIO) led the Trojans with six shots total, three on goal. Lady Falcon goalkeeper Suzie Hinman (Idaho Falls, ID) kept the clean sheet intact stopping seven shots on the day. The Lady Falcons will now take a step out of conference play in a road matchup at Chowan on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
