MISENHEIMER, N.C. A pair of unassisted goals in the final dozen minutes of play on Saturday afternoon helped lead the Pfeiffer Falcons to a 2-0 shutout over the 11th-ranked Anderson at N.E. Lefko Field. With the win, the Falcons improve to 5-3 on the season, 3-1 in conference play while nationally-ranked Anderson suffers its first setback of the season dropping to 6-1-1, 2-1-1.

In a rough second half of play, Fahret Salihovic (Charlotte, NC) would put the Falcons on the board stealing an errant Anderson pass from midfield and take it all the way beating keeper Benjamin Pepion (Denton, FRANCE) for a 1-0 lead in the 78th minute. Insurance in the form of Renato Barbosa (Charlotte, NC) came just over four minute later in a rocket shot from 30-yards out that clanked off the crossbar and in behind Pepion.

In a scoreless first half, Anderson would put a couple of early shots on goal, by Mark Smith (London, ENGLAND) and Ryan Messick (Point Pleasant, WV), only to have them turned away by Falcon keeper Alex Moreno (Huntersville, NC). For the Falcons, Nick Brindley (Northampton, ENGLAND) and Jeff Cannon (Lewis Center, OH) would fire the best chances at net against Pepion, only to have those turned aside as well.

Moreno picks up the shutout for the Falcons turning away seven shots on the day. Late in the second half, Luke Vernon (McLeansville, NC) would make a team save to preserve the lead and win for Pfeiffer. The Falcons next contest will be Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference battle with Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory.
