GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Pfeiffer University women's cross country team competed Saturday afternoon at the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational at Hagan Stone Park. Pfeiffer finished 2nd to Concord University out of West Virginia in an eight team field, two points ahead of third place St. Augustine's College.
For the day, the Lady Falcons posted four personal record performances, including freshman Lindsey Phillips, who finished first for Pfeiffer was 3rd overall with a time of 19:34. Kaitlyn Mullis second on the team in 11th overall with a personal best 21:09 followed by Magen Abernathy in 13th with a 21:25. "I told Lindsey she needed to start strong - and after the first 400 meters she was leading the race," recounts head coach Scott Nolt.
Freshman Yasmin Ingram from Parkland High School finished fourth on the squad with a 22:38, nearly three minutes faster than her best time from high school. "I think Yasmin surprised herself today with her finish. She is a very talented runner who really stepped up for us today," stated coach Nolt. Pfeiffer's fifth place runner was Chelsea Tysinger, in her first race of the season after a knee injury sidelined her for the first month. Tysinger finished 34th with a time of 24:02. April Hinson finished sixth for Pfeiffer with a personal best time of 24:30.
Post-race, coach Nolt was very pleased. "The girls continued to step up in the face of adversity. I think we have had two girls who haven't been sick or injured in the last two weeks." Pfeiffer had four runners who didn't compete due to injury.
Pfeiffer runs again this Friday October 2nd at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, NC where they will get to compete on the course that will host the Conference Carolinas meet later in October.
