MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Rebecca Lin (Northridge, GA) tallied the only goal in the 18th minute as the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears topped the Pfeiffer Lady Falcons 1-0 in non-conference women’s soccer on Tuesday afternoon at a soggy N.E. Lefko Field. The win moves the Bears overall record to 13-6 while the Lady Falcons 10-5-3.
Lenoir-Rhyne outshot Pfeiffer 15-7 in the sloppy conditions. Elizabeth Hawes (Valdese, NC) had three of the five L-R shots in the first half while Pfeiffer put both attempts on goal, only to have Bears keeper Katelyn Burwell (Carthage, NC) turn both away. In the 18th minute, Marianne Broevik (Drammen, NORWAY) sent a pass to Lin who found the back of the net taking that 1-0 lead to the half.
The Lady Falcons added five more shots in the second but had zero on goal. Late in the period, Megan Reaves (Mims, FL) blasted one of her three shots on the day just high. Hawes ended up with six shots, two on net, while Burwell made two saves in the shutout.
The Lady Falcons will wrap up the 2009 season on Saturday afternoon in the final Conference Carolinas match before next week’s tournament. Pfeiffer will host Lees-McRae on senior day at 3:00 p.m.
