MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University freshman middle Abbie Ovbey (Mt. Gilead, NC) has been named to the 2009 Conference Carolinas Women’s Volleyball All-Tournament Team after her stellar play during the Lady Falcons tournament run. Pfeiffer swept Barton in the first-round of the tournament 3-0 before falling short against Limestone, 3-2, trying to make the late comeback down 0-2 in the match.
In the two tournament matches, Ovbey had 22 kills hitting at .488 to lead the Lady Falcon offense. Ovbey’s .488 was .280 points higher than the team’s playoff average. On defense, Ovbey came up with eight total blocks, one solo, and three digs.
In the opening round against the Bulldogs, Ovbey put down a match-high 11 kills hitting at a .647 clip in the win. Ovbey also tossed in her lone solo block and one block assist. Taking on Limestone in the semifinals, Ovbey again registered 11 kills with a .375 attack percentage. The freshman also picked up a half-dozen block assists against the Saints.
Ovbey wraps up her rookie season second on the team with a .216 hitting percentage standing fourth with a 187 total kills. In the blocking department, Ovbey led the Lady Falcons with 17 solo blocks and 57 assisting blocks for a team-high 74 on the year.
